Enteric livestock methane and industrial agriculture practices are responsible for 24% of total food sector emissions, with and additional 7% related to conversion of forest and grassland to farmland. These sources increase with growing populations, most of which is occurring in the global South.

Agriculture accounts for 40% of total food sector emissions, more than half of which come from agrochemicals and manure handling (storage and use as fertilizer). 

​Our climate infrastructure is ideally suited to solve both problems with the potential to eliminate or avoid over 90% of their emissions.

Before crops, fish, meat, or dairy make it to your table, they’re processed, packaged, transported, refrigerated, baked, boiled, steamed, fried, broiled, or cooked over an open flame, and occasionally served in locations where preparers and diners traveled to in something other than an EV.

According to the UN FAO, nearly a third of our food is lost or thrown away at a time when more than 800 million people are impacted by hunger. 58% of landfill emissions are from food. Food waste is responsible for 1.6 gigatons of annual emissions, more than cement, aviation, or deforestation emissions.
